TORONTO (CBS Sports) – The Blue Jays have agreed to sign San Francisco Giants free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera to a two-year deal worth $16 million, according to ESPNDeportes.com’s Enrique Rojas.

The report said the deal is subject to Cabrera passing a physical, which would be undertaken on Monday.

Cabrera will be able to play starting on opening day since the left fielder served out his 50-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs. Cabrera, 28, hit .346/.390/.516 with 11 home runs in 113 games for the Giants this season, and was selected Most Valuable Player of the All-Star Game.

In parts of eight seasons with the Yankees, Braves, Royals and Blue Jays, Cabrera is a career .284/.338/.414 hitter with 69 home runs. The Blue Jays will be his fifth team in five seasons.

Cabrera was suspended Aug. 15 for a positive testosterone test. The Giants reinstated him to their 40-man roster following the National League Division Series against the Reds, but did not activate him in the playoffs.

In the last week, the Blue Jays have added not just Cabrera, but also Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins, pending approval by baseball commssioner Bud Selig.
